And we're back to our regularly scheduled cultural photos after a couple days of laziness and racquet sports! We have a couple more pics from the Roscoe Nix Show- we're moving on to Wushu! Wushu is a form of martial and performance arts coming from Taiwan, and it deals with awesome looking weapons!
What the performance essentially came down to was two performers alternating turns in showing off sequences of moves, involving stabbing and swinging motions of their swords, as well as complex contortions of their body. I've seen similar things like this from the Terps Wushu troupe we have on campus, but these younger performers were impressive nonetheless.
Like I may have said with the Bangladeshi dancers (I'm not going to bother to go read it again), you need to have a high shutter speed in order to cut down on the motion blur- however, with the f/5.6 lens I have, it's not really an option without sacrificing brightness of the picture or increasing the noise. Someday I will own some kind of lovely L lens with a ridiculously low f-stop... only then will I be happy...
Unlike Bangladeshi dancers, Wushu isn't perpetual motion, but bursts of energy placed between otherwise awesome poses. This makes my job easier, as the poses themselves are just as noteworthy as the movement. Take for example the picture above, we have the the subject stuck still, but we also capture the flow of her garb as well as the bending of her sword.
