Triathlon Part I- Ben's Chili Bowl (Yes I just took it off my tumblr)

Our culinary pioneers- and the panda in front of Ben's?
In two years of living in the first floor of UMD’s Bel Air Hall (aka the Pocket), we’ve developed a pattern of alternating between three restaurants for awkwardly timed food excurisions: Ben’s Chili Bowl, Amsterdam Falafel, and Taqueria Nacional. (Awkwardly timed refers to anything from midnight runs to pre-exam splurges.) All three of them are excellent, delicious, yet moderately priced establishments suitable for any day of the week.
But what if we went to all three in one day?
Thus, the Triathlon was born.
Today we all converged onto D.C. to embark on this culinary journey. Here are some pictures!
U St. intersection
Ben’s Chili Bowl is located on bustling U St, which is home to a number of other restaurants and bars serving all kinds of food. Someone could probably just write a whole food blog on that street alone- I wish I had the time and money….
The establishment itself is an important part of Washington D.C., and is a signature restaurant of the city. It’s even a Washington landmark! (which I dimwittedly cut in the frame).
Ben’s is famous for it’s obviously world class Chili. It serves in both Beef and Vegetarian varieties. But chili isn’t the only thing they do- they’ll serve it along with fries, hot dogs, and burgers.
I feel really redundant stating the obvious, but SOMEONE probably knows nothing of this place.
The staple for a number of Pocket bros is the Chili Half-smoke, pictured above. A juicy, freshly cooked half-smoke, served on a soft bun, covered in onions, mustard, and Beef Chili is one of the best things throughout all of Washington, DC, if you’re not a vegetarian.
More writing to be done on the next two legs- too many pics and fawning over for one post.
