Roscoe Nix Asian Heritage Celebration Part II- Korean Courtship (???)

So we move on to on of the more elaborate acts in this elementary school performance, this time showing off a trio of Korean women showing off a courtship dance from their home country.

As you can see, they were wearing gigantically elaborate robes, something I would call a cross between a Barong Tagalog, A Japanese kimono, and an eighteenth century gown, with the color scheme of a rainbow. In their hands they held matching pieces of cloth that they flicked up and about along with their dance like a ribbon. Their headwear looked like it took absolutely forever to set up- or they just might be wigs.  In looking at their outfits, and comparing that to our own cloth outfits, you couldn't help but feel a little outclassed.

Triathlon Part III- Taqueria Nacional

Now for the final leg of the triathlon is a small, little known taco place off G Street, in walking distance of Capitol Hill. Its hours leave much to be desired- this place involves the pre-exam splurges instead of late night runs. But when we can get out to this place like we did Thursday, boy is it worth it.

Roscoe Nix Elementary Asian Heritage Celebration Part I

I have a great appreciation for cultural performances. There is really no better way to teach to yourself your own culture while sharing it with the world than through dancing experience; I guess that's why I joined FCA Cultural. But for as much as I enjoy performing personally, I also get a huge kick out of seeing others perform their own dances, whether they be of their native culture or not. Performing at and watching the Roscoe Nix Elementary Asian Heritage Celebration was a big treat for me, then.

Triathlon Part II- Amsterdam Falafel Shop

Amsterdam is famous for… a couple things, I think. I’ll be honest, it’s not a city on my radar. It’s famous for marijuana legalization. It’s famous for Amstel Light commercials. And it’s famous for… I’ll be real I got nothing.
All I know is, Amsterdam Falafel makes A’dam Good Falafel. (That’s the actual slogan, but I support it)

Triathlon Part I- Ben's Chili Bowl (Yes I just took it off my tumblr)

Our culinary pioneers- and the panda in front of Ben's?
In two years of living in the first floor of UMD’s Bel Air Hall (aka the Pocket), we’ve developed a pattern of alternating between three restaurants for awkwardly timed food excurisions: Ben’s Chili Bowl, Amsterdam Falafel, and Taqueria Nacional. (Awkwardly timed refers to anything from midnight runs to pre-exam splurges.) All three of them are excellent, delicious, yet moderately priced establishments suitable for any day of the week.
But what if we went to all three in one day?
Thus, the Triathlon was born.
Today we all converged onto D.C. to embark on this culinary journey. Here are some pictures!

Hello!

Welcome to American Katipunero Photography! This is going to be a blog surrounding the photographs I take through my excursions in the Washington, D.C. area, any photos I take of various cultural events I enjoy attending, and my adventures abroad! I'll be posting pictures up while offering my own commentary.

I was going to stick with a tumblr, but I realize that it's not a very serious way of going about blogging, especially if you want to take a pseudo-serious approach, aka not treat your blog like a twitter. I could just post my pictures one by one in the same style, but I feel like I could write a thousand words for every thousand words a picture could tell. For every photo, there's not only a story of the people and objects encapsulated by the framing, but the story of the photographer and the world behind him as he takes it. That story needs to be told.

As for the title, the word "Katipunero" referred to rebels and dissidents in the Spanish-controlled Philippines during the 19th century. I guess the full title reflects my Filipino ethnicity and value of freedom of expression. Though this place won't get political.

Yes, this place will be used to post photos for Semester At Sea. Summer is going to be awesome. You don't have to tell me for the millionth time.

So enjoy what's to come!
